Pomegranate Chicken Salad

Salads and summer are a perfect combination.  Hot weather definitely stifles my appetite, and a crisp and cool salad is the perfect solution.

This pomegranate chicken salad is super easy to put together in a short amount of time. You can also substitute and add a million different things, to suit your own tastes.

This salad is very healthy, yet filling. This easily serves 2.

Pomegranate Chicken Salad

1- 1 1/2 cups cooked chicken (l usually poach and then shred or cube my chicken)
1 container Organic girl mixed greens
3/4 cups pomegranate seeds
1/2 cup dried jumbo cranberries
3 tbsp almond slivers
1/2 medium Hass avocado
1/4 cup fat free feta cheese
Annie's Naturals Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing

Combine all ingredients and enjoy!

**Best served with a glass (or bottle) of cirsp Sauvignon Blanc. Duh!

Z Gallerie Love

When I want some new things to refresh my space, one of the first places I go to is Z Gallerie. When they temporarily left their North Avenue location, I seriously did not understand how I would survive. Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn have great kitchen stuff, but their home decor is just not me. Z Gallerie is much more my style: it's chic, eye-catching, and just a little much. I can't get enough of their luxe and dramatic design. Since I don't own huge home with 25 foot ceilings, I go for things that are more suited to city and condo living.

Here are a few things l am into from Z Gallerie right now. l love the way the cool silver and bright aquamarine compliment each other.

Atlas Pillar Holder - Silver

Lotus Flower Plaque

Large Village Flower

Emma Frame

Zig Zag Candle - Aquamarine

Marcella Tote - White
Pug Bookends

Fray Pillow 18" - Aquamarine

Plexus Frame

What are you into from Z Gallerie?

Me, Myself, and I

Learning about the person behind a blog you love is one of the reason why people, like me, enjoy reading blogs. Today, I am linking up with the Me, Myself, and I link party in an effort to put more of me out there.

As I learn about myself as a blogger, and who I want to be as the voice of Chic Sugar, there is a lot to think about. How much about me is necessary to connect with readers? How much is too much? While I am still defining how this works for me, I would like more of me out there.

So enough with the serious thoughts... Here are a few questions that will give you a glimsp into who I am...

What's your biggest phobia?
Well, besides the obvious like dying, one of my biggest phobias is seaweed in a lake. Yes, I am serious... When I was little, I was pushing my mom on a raft and waded into a huge patch of seaweed that ensnared me in it. To this day, even brushing up against seaweed totally freaks. me. out.

If you could relive any day of your life, what would it be and why?
This is so hard to answer, but it might be wine tasting in Napa with one of my best friends, Katie. Napa was somewhere that I had always wanted to go, and the winieries we visited were absolutely stunning! We had so much fun together, and it didn't hurt that she let me finish whatever pours she couldn't! A best friend + tons of wine= heaven

If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
I think I would pick somewhere in my late 20s. An age where I have done a lot of growing up, but that I still have a lot of life to enjoy. An age where I would feel comfortable having children, or being out with my friends. Where I can wear cute clothes, but not have wrinkles.

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
My students love to tell me that I look like Lady Gaga... What do you think?

What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
"Best of What's Around" Dave Matthews Band  and "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga because they are two of my favorite songs for sure. As for the rest... I guess I am still creating my soundtrack.

How would you answer these questions?

xoxo, Jessica @{Chic Sugar}

Summer Party Ideas

For this Thursday, I am linking up again with Framed Frosting's Current Crush Thursdays.

Photobucket

Next week, our little neighborhood is having a street fest. Burger Fest to be exact. Me being me, and loving to entertain, we are going to have some friends over to hang out, (and by that I mean drink a lot) before we head over to check out the fest.

Now, I don't know about you, but burgers don't really inspire me a whole lot. Sure, Bakerella has these adorable burger cupcakes that I might make, but nothing beyond this is really feeling my hostess soul.

Here are some ideas that are inspiring me:

Cute plates and napkins that I found at Target. Their Spritz line has some really cute things in it, and the prices are very reasonable.

They also had a cute party banner. I usually make my own, but I picked it up in case I don't have time.

I ordered a mix of hot pink and lime green striped straws from Jill (BagLady2314) on Ebay. I can't get enough of striped straws every since I used them at Christmas! Jill was nice enough to send me a mix of both colors. Here are some of the other options she has... I want them ALL! I might end up with a weird hoarding situation of colored paper straws....

Now for the most important part... the drinks! I am crushing hard on all of these ideas. Would it be too much to make them all? The answer is... DUH! Make them all PLUS find another idea or two!

Watermelon Keg from Ministry of Alcohol
Clearly vodka will be added to mine...

Fruity Frozen Vodka Slush from Elizabeth Anne Designs
This sounds delicious, so be sure to check out her recipe. You can play with the ingredient list all you want and still come up with something amazing. Isn't her picture gorge?

Mason Jar Cocktails from The Larson Lingo
When this showed up on my Pinterest, I knew I had to try this out! I picked up some mason jars and I can't wait to use them for cocktails and this as well. Note- the original Pinterest pin does not give proper  credit. Be sure to visit The Larson Lingo!

Summer Ice Cubes from The Culinary Tribune
When I saw these also on Pinterest in the dead of winter, I knew they would be something to try out when sweet, sweet summer finally arrived.

"Skinny" Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Although I love fancy food and pretty drinks just as much as the next girl, there are definitely times that I like a "man meal" like anyone else. It might shock you, but I can chow on wings and drink beer (well, cider, if you want to be picky) with the guys.

A few nights ago, I was in the mood for buffalo chicken for dinner. But when I make everyday dinners, I like to make healthy meals. I hit up Skinnytaste to see if Gina had any options for buffalo chicken. Like usual, she did. Below is the recipe I made based of her Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Wraps.

All That Glitters is Gold

For my Current Crush pick of the week, I decided to focus on something that I just can't seem to get enough of lately... gold and wait for it... GLITTER! I am the quintessential girly girl who also loves glam, so gold + glitter = amazing in my book. I should probably give my gold glitter love credit to the person who undoubtedly provides more then enough inspiration in this category- my best friend Michelle. I guarantee you no one loves gold more than her!

Here are some fab finds that will add some literal sparkle to your life, and check out other Current Crushes:

Perfect Breakfast or Lunch for 1!

During the work week, I normally eat Greek yogurt with granola and berries for breakfast and some type of turkey sandwich for lunch. But when weekends or summer finally roll around, I am in desperate need of something different to eat. Like, if I see one more turkey sandwich I am going to scream, desperate.

Here is where this meal comes in. I love eating for either breakfast or lunch. It is filling, nutritious, and best of all, really yummy! There are a million and one ways to change this and make it how you want. I have been enjoying this delish combo all week.
